I participate in Community Supported Agriculture, so Community-Based Fisheries fits my belief system. Since I fish tub trawls in the Gulf Of Maine, I cannot compete with the large trawls. Community-Based fisheries allows me access to a market that supports a fishing method that is kind to the habitat, and limits by-catch. To be successful, I need fair access to the fishing grounds and can fish without damaging the fragile environment. By selling to Community-Based Fisheries, I can get a fair price for my catch without having to compete with the large trawlers at the auctions.
About Merrimack River Flies
I am a newly formed small concern fishing tub trawls for ground fish in the Gulf of Maine, and for Striped Bass in Massachusetts state waters. I fish a single 25' boat and use a method of harvest that reduces habitat damage and limits bycatch. I operate my boat as part of my online fishing fly manufacturing business -- Merrimack River Flies
