We know that we are connected to this planet and are aware of the impact we can have on it. Fishermen and women see and feel nature in a way not many other people do. It matters to us when things feel out of balance. Our approach is to use pots for cod, which is as low impact as it gets next to jigging and is how our octopus by-catch is caught. When long lining, we use snap on gear and are careful with the non-target fish so nearly all the by-catch that we don't keep, is removed from the hook and goes back alive. We work with other fisher people who share the same values and we have known for years, many of them involved in the politics of fish and sustainable management. About Raven Bay Seafoods
Raven Bay Seafoods is a family owned Alaskan fish company. We live and work in Dutch Harbor and have been doing so more than 30 years. Our boat, the F/V Raven Bay, has a long history in the halibut, sablefish and cod fisheries. Raven Bay Sfds. was formed with the idea of bringing our non-target fish to market. In every fishery there will be by-catch and for us, they are just as delicious as the target species and handled in the same careful way.
